Tomes & Tonics is proud to support local self-published and independently published authors through our Author Consignment Program.
Because shelf space is limited, we are unable to accept every submission. Please review the requirements below carefully before submitting your application through the provided form.
Consignment Requirements
Authors must meet the following requirements to be considered:
Authors must reside in the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area (Missouri or Illinois).
Books must be professionally printed and bound with the title and author name displayed on the spine.
Books must have a valid ISBN printed on the back cover.
Books may not contain racist, sexist, homophobic, or other hateful content.
Books may not have overtly religious or faith-based themes.
Books whose primary purpose is religious instruction or evangelism will not be considered.
Books may not contain AI-generated content, including cover art. Authors will be asked to certify that no generative AI was used in the manuscript or cover art.
Please note that Tomes & Tonics reserves the right to accept or decline submissions based on available shelf space, the genres we carry, our customer interests, and what we believe is the best fit for our store.
We encourage prospective authors to visit the store before applying to determine whether their book is a good fit for our inventory.
All review copies and consignment books are submitted at the author's own risk. While Tomes & Tonics exercises reasonable care, the store is not liable for losses resulting from theft, fire, flood, or other circumstances beyond our control.
Application & Review Process
Complete the Author Consignment Application using the form linked below.
All future communication will be conducted via email at hello@tomesandtonics.com.
If your submission appears to be a good fit, we will request one review copy of your book. The review copy may be dropped off at the store or mailed to the address we provide.
Our staff will review all submissions. If your book is accepted, we will contact you within approximately six (6) weeks.
Due to the volume of submissions, we are unable to notify applicants whose books are not selected. If you have not received a response within six weeks, please consider your submission declined at this time.
If your book is not accepted, it is your responsibility to retrieve your review copy or pay for return shipping. Review copies not collected within three (3) months of the original drop-off date may be donated or discarded.
If your book is accepted, the review copy becomes property of the store but will not be sold.
If your book is accepted, you will receive a Consignment Agreement in PDF format that must be signed electronically or in print before books are placed on our shelves.
Consignment Terms
If accepted into the program, the following terms apply:
The author will provide three (3) copies of the book for consignment.
The author agrees to list Tomes & Tonics as a retailer where the book is available on their website and promotional materials whenever possible.
The author will receive 60% of the retail selling price (excluding sales tax) for each book sold.
Price will be set by the Consignor/Author
Payments will be issued quarterly during the first week of:
April

The initial consignment period is 90 days.
If books continue to sell during the consignment period, additional copies may be supplied and the agreement renewed for successive 90-day terms.
If books do not sell during the initial 90-day period, Tomes & Tonics may choose not to renew the agreement. In that case, the author must pick up the remaining books or provide payment for return shipping.
Books left at the store after the consignment period without arrangements for pickup or renewal may be donated to a local nonprofit organization.
Either the author or Tomes & Tonics may terminate or decline to renew the consignment agreement at any time.
Authors are responsible for monitoring inventory levels during the consignment period. Additional copies may be delivered when inventory is reduced to one remaining copy.
We appreciate your interest in partnering with Tomes & Tonics and look forward to discovering great local authors.
